Coachella 2023: Metro Boomin made some noise with The Weeknd, Future and more guests (2024)
If you came to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to party, the Sahara tent will be one of your mainstays. It is the largest tent stage at the festival and is the home of many of the EDM and hip-hop acts.
Metro Boomin closed out the Sahara tent on Friday, Weekend 2 and said, "Friday night, the loudest night in Coachella."
However, the producer began his show five minutes late, which contradicts the first song he played called "On Time."
He may have missed the mark to start the show in a timely fashion, but he did not fail to bring out multiple surprise guests and lived up to "Metro Boomin & Friends," which was what his set was officially dubbed this weekend (unlike last weekend, which only had his name on the schedule).
The first guest to hit the stage was 2022 Coachella headliner The Weeknd, which got a huge audience response.
"I've been dying to see The Weeknd since high school," a woman yelled from the crowd.
He performed six songs in total, which included "Creepin'," and "Heartless," which were favorites among attendees. His last song on stage was "Low Life," which prompted the next surprise guest, Future.
His next song was "Superhero (Heroes & Villains)" and the excitement from the crowd erupted as the momentum continued to roll through. The Sahara was filled beyond capacity as a large portion of people extended past the confines of the tent and reached the grassy area next to the Ferris wheel.
Future's final song on stage was "Mask Off," which Metro Boomin introduced by mentioning the uplifting of the Covid-19 mask mandate.
Metro Boomin's introduction to "Mask Off" was perplexing and prompted a mixed crowd reaction, but once the song began, audience members roared, threw their hands up and began dancing along.
"Never chase a b****," the crowd chanted in unison.
Halfway through the set, Don Toliver came out for three songs. Unfortunately, this was when the crowd started to disperse as Bad Bunny, the Friday night headliner, was set to hit the Coachella Stage within the next 30 minutes.
The impact of the people leaving the Sahara could be felt, as the crowd became more roomy and there was more space to breath.
Metro Boomin was not phased by the mass exit of attendees, and played a handful of hit songs that included "Bounce Back" by Big Sean and "Tunnel Vision" by Kodak Black. His faithful fans who stayed still filled the entire Sahara tent, which showed how big the crowd was to begin with.
The set was capped with one last guest appearance. Offset came out for the songs "Bad & Boujee" and "Ric Flair Drip," which kept audience members dancing until the very end.

Metro Boomin brought the star-studded energy of his Heroes & Villains album to Coachella. The legendary producer filled his set with massive names, including John Legend, Don Toliver, 21 Savage, Future, Diddy, and the Weeknd with Mike Dean on keys when he took the stage on Friday.
Metro Boomin and Future's 27-date North American tour will be making stops in Detroit, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Boston, Philly, Houston, Toronto, Las Vegas, Seattle and more before wrapping up north of the border on Sept.
The Weeknd first performed his solo songs “Faith,” “Escape from LA,” and “Heartless” before Future joined the artists for “Low Life.” From there, Abel Tesfaye debuted “Double Fantasy,” a song from his upcoming HBO series The Idol. The artists closed the set with “Creepin,” which also featured 21 Savage and Diddy.
