RN to BSN Program Overview

Are you a registered nurse looking to advance your career or increase your earning potential? Many employers are requiring nurses to have bachelor’s degrees, so there’s no better time than now to expand your options.
This program provides the knowledge and skills to build on your basic nursing education and advance in your career. You have the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing while building a strong foundation in the arts, sciences and humanities.
To make it easier for working RNs, all nursing courses for the RN to BSN program are offered in an online format. Full- and part-time study is available. Non-nursing courses are also available online.
This degree also provides the foundation for graduate education in nursing.

RN to BSN students:

Admission Requirements
- Complete the RN to BSN application form and submit official transcripts from all institutions of higher education.
- Meet one of the following requirements:
- Hold a current, valid license (not inactive, suspended, revoked or subject to restrictions and for which the individual continues to meet all requirements for issuance) to practice as a registered nurse in one U.S. state or territory.
- Be enrolled in an RN licensure program.
- Be a graduate of an RN program and eligible for the NCLEX-RN.
Apply for the RN to BSN Program
Transfer Policy
Unlimited credits may transfer to AU.
Residency requirements to complete 120 credit hours for the bachelor’s degree from AU include:
- At least 30 semester hours of credit at AU.
- Last 12 semester hours before graduation earned at AU.
- Two required AU nursing courses may transfer from a nationally accredited program.

If needed, courses taken to complete the 120-degree-requirement hours or complete part of the School Nurse Program. Most students will not require these.

Your BSN credential will position you for advancement into roles such as nurse manager, clinical coordinator or specialty nurse practitioner, where you can take on leadership responsibilities, contribute to evidence-based practice and positively influence healthcare outcomes. Additionally, having a BSN may lead to increased earning potential and job security, while also providing a strong foundation for pursuing further education at the graduate level if desired.
