The St Clair Co Jail is a detention center located at 1170 Michigan Rd Port Huron, MI which is operated locally by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. St. Clair County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Port Huron Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Inmates at St. Clair County Jail, held for over 72 hours, undergo classification and assignment to the general population, with exceptions possible based on extraordinary circ*mstances. During classification interviews, inmates receive an orientation covering jail visiting hours, rights, privileges, and available programs. Following the interview, inmates receive a copy of the Inmate Rules and Regulations and are assigned a cell.

The Judicial Sentence Reduction Program allows inmates serving 30 days or more, having completed half their sentence, to petition the sentencing court for a 25% reduction on the remainder. Petition forms are available from corrections staff. The petition, along with a conduct report, is processed by corrections and rehabilitation personnel before being submitted to the Probation Department for recommendations and then to the sentencing Judge.

Inmate money is collected upon admission and deposited into an inmate trust fund. During incarceration, purchases from the commissary are deducted from this fund. Upon release, the remaining balance, minus medical expenses, is issued to the inmate. Inmate property is stored for 30 days upon transfer to another facility, with no release while in custody. Special circ*mstances are reviewed by the on-duty Supervisor.

All personal property belonging to the inmate at the time of admittance will be confiscated by the booking officers and accounted for. The inmate will sign for this property and it will be returned upon the inmate's discharge. Jewelry will not be permitted in the confines of the Jail except a wedding ring if worn by the inmate at the time of admittance to The St. Clair County Jail. Do not send cash through the mail.
